Springbrook Preserve is a gem of a place excellent for hiking, running, or biking. But, a tunnel under Plainfield Road conveniently connects the two trails on either side of the road. The only small negative thing about the loop trail is that a major road (Book Road) cut through the 5 mile loop, which means one has to cross the road twice in order to complete a loop. Rest benches are located about every half mile. Trail markings are excellent throughout and quite informative placards posted every so often. Lots of black berries were in fruition on this trail. There is also a 2-mile long nature trail (Henslow’s Trail) dedicated for hiking only. These two trails are very smoothly paved with crushed stone and biking is permitted on these two trails. There is also a one mile trail (Sunflower Trail) which serves as access path from Modaff Road. The main attraction is an approximately 5.5 mile loop trail (Springbrook Prairie Trail). The prairie was abloom with a variety of colorful flowers. A model craft field is also available at the Plainfield Road parking lot. The place was chirping with variety of grassland birds and lots of rabbits were on the trails. No shade is to be expected most of the way. The trails are wonderful running through prairieland vegetation. I rode my bike and hiked on the trails in Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in Naperville in August. I cannot wait to return (for my next pack of chappati, of course). Jamaica Plains, Edison-they are checkers to Naperville’s chess.

But the insight to be had is that Naperville wholly embraces their diversity, no reservations. I found an Indian biker gang, Indian Malia Obama, all sorts of things with such a large sample size. This was normal.Įxpired chappati: Paneer masala pizza in hand (s/o to the one dude who runs the entire operation single-handedly), I saw how “out with the old and in with the new” rid a neighborhood of their old leadership to make way for a cohort of first generation immigrants setting the course for the future of the homeowner’s association.įresh chappati: new to me, the density and diversity of one suburban center shed new light on what it means to live in America. Friendships formed by mere proximity-without barriers separating them, families could comfortably don their cultural attire and the next generation took no notice. Kids of all nationalities, denominations, and ages played as one collective identity: Napervillian. only dreamt of what I saw in the park near the riverwalk. Soft chappati: at Honest Cafe, while you tested my spice tolerance (even after requesting mild), the kind service and welcoming company of so many brethren (Indians) dining beside us was simply transcendent (not to mention the solid mango lassi).Ĭrunchy chappati: running into the kind yet crunchy young gentlemen who dined next to us at Honest just minutes later when we arrived at the river walk garage next to Hotel Indigo, we were greeted with a hearty “Jai Hind!” As they drove away in their lime green Porsche SUV, I knew in my soul we had arrived.Ĭhewy chappati: Martin Luther King Jr. Round chappati: at the Mall of India, I found a store dedicated solely to selling Indian gold jewelry and another selling plushies of Lord Ganesha. Patel, I bought a pack of 25.Īs someone who grew up in a fairly homogenous community in the southern part of the United States, I was shocked, albeit refreshed, by Naperville’s composition. Round, soft, crunchy, chewy, expired, fresh-Naperville bundles all of them together. I am a fan (dare I say connoisseur) of chappati.
